Why do Christians keep bothering me?

Not everyone welcomes it when people try and persuade you of the truth of Chritianity.  Why do Christians seem to want to persuade others that they should become Christians?  If you have a question about whether Christians are being intolerant then you may find a separate article on this issue more helpful.  If however, you don't really understand why Christians are so persistent at seeking to explain things to you about their faith, or keep inviting you to events they're running then read on:

The main reason that Christians want to tell others about their faith is love.  It might not feel loving if you've been invited repeatedly to a course or a talk or a church service but perhaps an illustration will help to explain.  Imagine a doctor who knows the cure for a dreadful disease, which kills all those who contract it and is very widespread.  Unfortunately this disease is not one that people like to talk about as they feel it reflects very badly on them if they have it.  It would be a strange way to practise medicine if the doctor were to avoid mentioning the disease because she didn't like to trouble people, or it was just too much effort. In fact you might say that she was behaving very badly indeed, even committing a great evil by failing to offer the cure to those who are in desperate need.  If it would offer them genuine hope for a long life and save them from an awful death you would expect her to do eveything in her power to offer that cure to as manmy people as possible.  Christians believe that through Jesus, God has given us the wonderful gift of new life in relationship with Him (now and forever) and that He has saved us from having to face His own justice.  It would be at least strange if we didn't want to offer what we have received to others.  The fact that we have received it is also important - it means that we are not offering from a position of strength but rather passing on a gift.
