Diamonds Cafe

Working with Older People

We all appear to be living longer and so Cambridge boasts a large population of older people.

At Rock Baptist, we work with the elderly by regularly visiting a local residential home in the city as well as hosting Diamonds Café.

What is Diamonds Cafe?

Diamonds Cafe takes place on alternate Fridays, from 2.30-4pm at Lichfield Community Centre, Lichfield Road.

It’s a free cafe for over-60s run by volunteers from Rock Baptist Church but is open to all and we welcome people of any faith or none.  The afternoon generally runs like this:

  • For the first half we enjoy tea, coffee, cakes and chat. About halfway through there will be some notices and some food for thought - sometimes we might hear the story of how one of the team members became a Christian or else we might have a short ‘Thought for the Day’ slot where someone gives a very short talk about current affairs and how it relates to an aspect of the Christian faith.
  • During the second half we have the option of craft activities (e.g. Glass painting, Card-making, Decoupage!); games like Scrabble, dominoes etc; we’re very open to new ideas to – last year we had a wonderful talk on the history of Cambridge.

If you want to come along and try it out you’re very welcome.

Come for as long or short a time as you like.
